William L. “Bill” Brill, a dedicated veteran, skilled tradesman, and beloved community member, passed away on February 14, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on January 11, 1949, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Bill lived a life of service, hard work, and camaraderie, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew him.
Growing up in Fond du Lac, Bill was raised by his parents, Floyd Sr. and Lorraine (Konen) Brill, alongside his siblings. He graduated from New Holstein High School in 1967 and shortly after, answered the call to serve his country.
From 1969 to 1975, Bill proudly served in the U.S. Army and was honored with a Purple Heart for his bravery and dedication. His service was a defining chapter in his life, and in later years, he was privileged to be part of an Old Glory Honor Flight on August 7, 2019—a moment that deeply resonated with him.
After his military service, Bill dedicated 35 years to Ironworkers Local #8, working on projects ranging from manufacturing plants to bridges, hospitals, and waste treatment facilities. His skills and dedication took him from Wisconsin to Hawaii, contributing to the infrastructure that supports countless communities.
Bill was not just a hardworking man; he was also a vibrant part of the social fabric in his community. Over the years, he owned and operated several beloved taverns, including Brill’s Re-Bar in Calumetville, Alumni in Johnsburg, and BS Inn in Mt. Calvary.
These establishments were more than businesses—they were places where friendships were formed, laughter was shared, and memories were made. Whether playing the stump fiddle or singing along to Frank Sinatra on the jukebox, Bill brought joy to those around him.
Music was a constant in Bill’s life. He had a passion for Gospel music, Dixie Land, and four-part harmony, which he shared as a member of the Johnsburg Church Choir for over 50 years. He also actively supported local events, fundraisers, and the Holyland ballparks, embodying the spirit of generosity and community engagement.
His contributions extended to various organizations, including the Calumet Fire Department, Abler-Engel American Legion Post 454 in Mt. Calvary, and the Malone Area Heritage Museum. His commitment to service never waned, even after his retirement.
Bill’s legacy lives on through his surviving sisters, nieces, nephews, and the countless friends he made throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Floyd Jr., brother-in-law Donald Moon, and nephew Corey Sesing.
A visitation will be held on February 20, 2025, at St. John the Baptist in Johnsburg from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by a Memorial Mass at 5:30 PM.
